ORIGIN AND EVOLUTION

Africa faces a myriad of challenges including a leadership gap in most institutions. Dysfunctional leadership has its trail marks in almost all institutions ranging from basic family, education and religious institutions to more complex government and para governmental institutions. The need for visionary leadership is, therefore, imperative.

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu noted that the biggest challenge facing Africa is “a very serious crisis of leadership” (Martin, 2003:111).

Africa needs servant leaders who will empower the people rather than use them for their selfish gain. Servant leadership answers a conscious question: “what can I do for my country?” as opposed to “what can my country do for me?”

On the flip side, most African people elect leaders who will benefit them personally for reasons ranging from tribal affiliation, nepotism, bribery and business opportunities. This pattern of voting in leaders and the population greatly hampers general development.

Created in 2005, the Centre for Leadership Development – Africa (CLAD-Africa) is a pan-African organization that exists to transform communities and their leaders to undergo a paradigm shift in approach in all areas of life ranging from social, economic, political and religious. CLAD-Africa exists to equip, promote and advance good leadership.

CLAD-Africa serves its target population of opinion shapers and leaders in positions of influence to the greater public comprising children, youth groups, women, men and youth groups, religious and church leaders, government and non-governmental organizations. CLAD-Africa is a not-for-profit organization that serves the public and private sector.
